The destructiveness of aviation industry lies in its disproportionate contribution to global warming. Why is this contribution so disproportionate?
There are three main reasons
- Planes can travel very large distances in short spaces of time. Planes can therefore emit very large amounts of carbon in short spaces of time.
- The nitrous oxide and water vapour released at cruising altitudes multiply the warming effect of the carbon emissions by at least 2.7.
- The rapid growth of the aviation industry makes it the fastest growing cause of climate change in developed countries.
