About

Plane Mad is an Irish group taking action against aviation’s climate impact. The group came together in 2007, when people from all over Ireland met at an environmental workshop organised by Gluaiseacht. We are drawn from counties Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Kilkenny, Limerick, Monaghan and Tipperary.

Plane Mad believes in positive alternatives to Ireland’s flight-binge culture and acts against this excess. Governments all around the world are gearing up to reduce emissions but are leaving out the aviation industry. We cannot allow aviation to expand in wealthy countries as climate change claims the lives of 150,000 a year in developing countries,* and we believe that aviation must be tackled to achieve climate justice. All our positions are well researched and firmly based on science.

We are dedicated to separating fact from fiction and exposing lies and greenwash by the aviation industry. We use a variety of tactics, from lobbying to direct action, and everything in between.

We focus our campaigning efforts on four main demands:

1. Halt airport expansion.

2. End subsidies for internal flights.

3. Ban advertising of aviation.

4. Tax aviation fuel.

We welcome new members who want to get involved with our group. We organise without leaders and take all decisions by consensus.

We believe change is possible; so please come and join us!
